AMAZING GRACE

Before you came to my rescue,
I was wallowing and drowning in sin,
I was filthy with stains of sin,
Before I encountered you I was
Nothing but a retched sinner,
Oh what an amazing grace,
You came into my life,
Brought me out of the miry clay,
You washed away my sin,
And clothed me with your righteousness,
Oh what an amazing grace!

I was soaked in iniquity,
For in iniquity I was conceived,
In iniquity I lived, move,
And had my being,
When you came into my life,
You gave me beauty for ashes,
And in you now I live, move,
And have my being,
You turned my sorrow into dancing,
Oh what an amazing grace!

WHY DO MEN SEEK GOD?

TEXT: JOHN 6:24-27
“Once the crowd realised that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went to Capernaum in search of Jesus. When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, “Rabbi, when did you get here?” Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, you are looking for me, not because you saw miraculous signs but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the son of Man will give you (John 6: 24-27).
People seek God for different reasons; some seek Him because He is the only sovereign God, full of wonders. They want to know Him daily because He is a unique God that created all things but was not created by anybody. They want to know God so that they can fulfil the purpose of their creation (to fellowship and to serve Him).
There are some people that are seeking God because of the blessing that they want from Him, some seek Him because they want a change in their situation, they follow God because of material needs, and once these needs are met; they stop seeking God. These categories of seekers are not seeking God because God loves them and they want to reciprocate His love, they are not keen to know Him and follow His ways.
Jesus told the crowd that they should not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life.” (John 6:27).

Never seek God because of material things because they are perishable and momentary. Seek God with all your heart, walk in His ways and do His will, so that you can inherit eternal life and inherit the imperishable crown. The scripture tells us to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all other things shall be added unto you (Matthew 6:33). Seek God genuinely and He will add to you the blessings of His kingdom. When you seek and find God, He will find the bearing of your life for you!

DON’T BUY YOUR WAY UP

TEXT: MATTHEW 20:20-23
Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favour of him.
“What is it you want?” he asked.
She said, “Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.”
“You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them. “Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?”
“We can,” they answered.
Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father.” (Matthew 20: 20-23)
At every point in life, we feel like bypassing a process or requirement so that we may need not to go through the necessity of life for us to achieve our goals. We feel like exempting ourselves from particular requirements or procedures, we want to be great but we don’t want to pay the price of greatness.
John the Baptist wanted to exempt Jesus from being Baptised because he thought it was not necessary, he knew that Jesus did not commit any sin, and he is his superior, but Jesus believed that for you to become who God wants you to become in life, you must fulfil all righteousness and do things the way they are meant to be. He made John to baptise him because he came to this world as a man, and he wanted to lay example for us to follow. Jesus wanted to do all that is required of all human beings to inherit the kingdom of God. He laid the example for us so that we would learn not to bypass any kingdom requirements for us to fulfil purpose. The mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus, kneeling down and asking Jesus for a favour that Jesus should make her children to sit on his left and his right in his kingdom.
The woman was lobbying for her children to seat at the throne of honour, but she wanted the children to bypass the requirements needed for the seats. Because Jesus did not bypass his own requirement to his successful ministry, he refused to accept the favour that the mother of the disciples wanted. Many believers are like the mother of these disciples, they lobby their way up the ladder of success or ministry. If you bypass the requirements needed, the blessing and fulfilment of the office will bypass you.

If you don’t pay the price, if you fail to meet the requirements, if you cut corners to climb the ladder of success, your functionality in that office may be a serious struggle with little or nothing to show for it. There is always an exam before promotion, and if you were not the one that sat for the exam and “you came out in flying colours,” how are you going to defend your result? How effective and efficient are you going to be in your work place, when you are working with a result you do not merit? Definitely failure is inevitable!
“Jesus said to them, you will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my father.” (Matthew 20:23). After having the requirements and experience, you need to wait for God to promote you. Don’t run ahead of God, He will launch you out in His own time. It does not matter if you are at the bottom of the ladder, when it is time; He would bring you to the top of the ladder.

YOU HAVE A PART TO PLAY

TEXT: JOHN 6:44
The scripture makes us to understand that no one can come to Jesus except the father draws him. It is only God that can touch the heart of whoever He wants to touch for repentance and salvation to take place. No amount of sermon can change a man if God is not involved, but we have a part to play in making unbelievers to come to Christ. We are the channel God will use to make unbelievers to be drawn to Him. God has given us the mandate to go into the world and make disciples of all nations; we need to fulfil this mandate by making positive impact on people around us and our society at large.
Jesus made positive impact in all the places he went to, he made sure that the people were not left the same way he met them (he met all their needs). He provided healing, food, salvation and words of comfort to heal the broken hearts. Many believers these days find it difficult to attend to the need of people around them, and we want them to confess the lord that we are confessing. Our lives should be different from the rest of the people in the world; giving and rendering help to people should not be a problem for us.

How many lives have you touched in your community? What help have you rendered to the development of the community you live in? These are ways that you can win people to Christ without stress. You are the light of the world, your light should affect your community, let your light radiate around people in your community and not within the four walls of your church. If you as a Christian can be kind, caring and helpful in your community, you will not need to preach for long before souls will be won to Christ. The scripture says we should let people see our good deeds so that they can glorify your father in heaven. It is not enough to preach and quote the scripture, but let us put what we preach into practice by rendering a helping hand to the needy in our community like Jesus did, and see them eager to serve God without forcing or dragging them to do so.

“Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, “Go I wish you well keep warm and well fed, but does nothing about his physical needs. What good is it?” (James 2:15-16). People cannot see God; but they can see us (as God’s image and His representatives) we have a part to play to make unbelievers to be drawn to God. Let us love and care for them both physically, materially and spiritually. May the lord bless you as you go in His strength to play your part in the great commission.

GOD’S STRATEGY

TEXT: DANIEL 3 & 6
When God allowed Daniel (a fervent lover of God) to be taken captive to Babylon, we may be wondering why did God allowed that to happen to him. God is the all knowing God that knows the end from the beginning, and His plans are always right and perfect without an error. Babylon was a nation where different gods were worshipped, they did not believe in the living God, except their “small gods.” God wanted to show His uniqueness to the land of Babylon by doing wondrous things that no gods or magicians can do.
Daniel was the channel God used to display His mighty power in Babylon. During the reign of king Nebuchadnezzar, a golden image was made, people were told to bow down to worship the image at the sound of the horn. Daniel and his friends refused to bow down for the golden image, the king ordered them to be thrown into the fiery furnace (Daniel 3:19-20). What the king expected did not happen; instead the boys were saved by the living God. “Nebuchadnezzar said “praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego who has sent His angel and rescue His servants… (Daniel 3:28). God used the situation to draw the heart of the king to himself. A king that believed in his gods, enchanters, magicians, and astrologers, started giving glory to God! He made a decree that people of any nation or language that says anything against the living God will be cut into pieces, and their house be turned into pile of rubble (Daniel 3:29). Also when God restored king Nebuchadnezzar’s sanity, he praised and exalted God of heaven.

When Darius and Mede took over the kingdom, there was a plot against Daniel. A decree was made that nobody should pray to any other God for thirty days except the king. Daniel refused to obey the decree and he was put in the Lion’s den. The angel of the lord closed the mouth of the Lion and the Lion did not devour him. This scenario changed the king’s thoughts about the living God. The lord knows how to draw people’s attention to Him. When the king saw the wonders of God, he issued a decree “The king Darius wrote to all the people, nations, and men of every language throughout the land. “I issued a decree that in every part of my kingdom, people must fear and reverence the God of Daniel for He is the living God and He endures forever…(Daniel 6:25-26). That “Babylonian situation” that you are in, is for the glory of God to manifest. Use the situation to witness Christ to unbelievers, let unbelievers come to the knowledge of God like the kings we talked about earlier. God brought that situation your way so that you can tell unbelievers about His greatness. The situation may be in your work place, your business, your school or your geographical location. Don’t feel bad about what is happening, don’t ask why? Don’t say where is God? He wants to use you like Daniel to witness to unbelievers, as Daniel was promoted after the test, you will also be promoted to a HIGHER level if you pass the test.

They Say that I'm Nothing, but I'm Something

They say I’m poor,
They say I’m nothing.
They say I’m poor and they say I’m nothing because I’ve got nothing to offer to any living soul.
I’ve got no money, no food, no child, no wife nor husband and no home to go home to that is because I’ve got no money.
But I say I’m blessed
I’m blessed because God told me so.
He loves me the same way he loves every life on earth. I’m blessed because I’m still alive.
I breathe the same air that rich men breathe,
I walk on the same ground that rich men walk . . . therefore  I am no different.
I am rich with life
I am rich with love
I’m rich with hope that one day they will see the beauty that God treasured in me because I am something indeed

THE GREAT BANQUET

The feast is ready,
And He is calling
To all and sundry,
Come in eat, drink
And be merry He said,
But instead of people
To come in for the
Great banquet they
Are so busy doing
Their own things,
And refused to
Attend the banquet.

The feast is ready,
And He is calling
To all and sundry,
Everything has been
Provided by the host,
Food, drink, and
Everything is ready,
Hear His invitation
“Come for everything
Is now ready.”
But people are not ready.

The feast is ready,
And He is calling
To all and sundry,
Stop making excuses
And honour His invitation
To the great banquet,
Let not the distractions
Of this world hinder
You from honouring
This special invitation,
There is room for all
And sundry He says,
Do not turn down the
Invitation to this great banquet.

WHERE IS THE LORD GOD OF ELIJAH?

Where is the Lord God of Elijah?
The One, of whom we have heard,
Whom our father have proved and have
Told us, and their wondrous experiences have shared.

Where is the lord of Elijah?
Has He left off to answer our prayers?
In judgement, did He forget mercy?
Oh, why is His arm not made bare?

In pity, He looks down upon us,
As we're under His chastening rod,
He says, " I'm still the lord God of Elijah,
But where are the Elijah's of God?"

Where are those, who will seek mine anointing?
Fro in their own strength they will fail,
Who will seek my face in my presence,
Until with God and man they prevail?

Who will go at my word, do my bidding,
And not seek to pursue their own will?
Who will stand in the gap in this hour?
Who will know I am God and be still?

Where is the God of Elijah?
He's here, He's forever the same!
And He's looking for the Elijah's of God,
To anoint to the glory of His name!

DON’T SHARE IN HIS GLORY

TEXT: DANIEL 4:29-35
Whenever God is promoting you or doing something great through you, appreciate Him and give Him ALL the glory. Never attribute the success to your strength, ability or your wisdom, always remember that you are what you are by the grace of the lord, without Him you can do nothing (1Corinthians 15:10). Many people are guilty of this fact, like Nebuchadnezzar, they believe that their wealth, anointing, wisdom, is as a result of the tremendous effort that applied that made them to be successful.
Nebuchadnezzar became rich and powerful that the success made him to forget God; he believed that everything was done by his power and wisdom. “Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?” (Daniel 4:30) his act of pride cost him his kingdom, his kingdom was taken away from him for seven years. “The word was still on his lips when a voice came from heaven. “This is what is decreed for you, king Nebuchadnezzar your royal authority has been taken from you…. (Daniel 4: 31). After seven years his sanity was restored back, he praised the most high, he honoured and glorifies Him. “Those who walk in pride He is able to humble.”(Daniel 4:37).if you become proud because of the blessing that He has given to you; He knows how to deal with you so that you will be humbled. Whenever God blesses you, always acknowledge Him by giving Him ALL the glory, not partial glory because He will never share His glory with anything or any man. (Isaiah 42:8).
When things are working well with you, when you have great success, if you honour and give God ALL the glory, He will make you greater, this can be confirmed in Nebuchadnezzar’s word “My advisers and nobles sought me out, and I was restored to my throne and I became even greater than before.” (Daniel 4:36).

Go on now! Acknowledge Him for that great thing He’s doing in your life, family, ministry, business and so on, return ALL the glory back to Him so that He would bless you the more.

SEEING THINGS THROUGH GOD'S EYES

TEXT: JUDGES 6:13-16
God is seeing you differently in a way that nobody is seeing; in fact He is seeing you differently in a way that you are not seeing yourself. People may be seeing you as a nobody, a never do well, weak and lazy and so on, you might have also accepted the way people are seeing you, by seeing yourself that way. Until you start to see yourself the way God is seeing you that you will manifest the way God wants you to manifest.
When the Midianites were oppressing the Israelites by invading their country, destroying their crops, even their animals were not spared. The Israelites needed help from the lord so that they can be delivered from the oppression, God decided to use Gideon, but he saw himself as a weak and a nobody. “The lord is with you mighty warrior" (Judges 6:12). God saw in him what neither him nor anybody saw in him. His reply confirmed that he did not see himself through God’s eyes. “The lord turned to him and said “Go in the STRENGTH YOU HAVE and save Israel out of Midian’s hand am I not sending you? But lord Gideon asked, how can I save Israel? My tribe is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.” (Judges 6: 14-15). He saw himself as a weak and an irrelevant person to solve the problem in Israel, but God saw in him a mighty man with full strength!  God encouraged him by assuring him that His presence will be with him.
After God’s word of assurance to Gideon, he started seeing himself as the warrior that God called him. He went to fight and he defeated the Midianites. When God called Moses to go and deliver the Israelites in Egypt, he started giving excuses that he cannot speak very well, he is too small to face Pharaoh, but when God assured Moses that He would be with Him, he got the courage to embark on the journey of delivering God’s people.

We need not to accept how people sees us, don’t see yourself that you are nothing or that there are things that you cannot do, because the scripture says we can do all things through Christ that strengthens us (Philippians 4:13). Do not limit yourself, don’t write yourself off, go to God today and ask Him to help you to see yourself through His eyes so that you can fulfil destiny.

PUT THIS TO WORK TILL I COME BACK

TEXT: LUKE 19:13
God does not want any of His children to be idle in His kingdom. He wants us to engage ourselves in the work of the kingdom; He wants us to continue the work Jesus did on earth. We are instructed by God to follow the footsteps of Jesus Christ, Jesus did not give up doing the work of the lord Almighty that sent him to this world, through out his life time he was going about doing good.
He told his disciples that we must do the work of him that sent us, for night is coming when no one will be able to work (John 9: 4). This means that as long as you are living; you cannot retire from doing the work of God, you need to carry out the great commission that the lord Jesus sent us to do. Our joy should be in doing the things of God, Jesus said “My food is to do the will of him who has sent me and to finish His work (John 4:34). Jesus delighted in doing things that would draw people to the kingdom of God.

Our text says “He called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas, put this money too work he said until I come back.” As children of God; nothing should stop us from doing things that will draw people into the kingdom of God. You know the kind of gift that the lord has deposited in you; it may be counselling, preaching, evangelising, helping and so on. Manifest these gifts and never stop doing good as long as you are still breathing, and as long as Jesus hasn’t come back. I pray that God will give us the grace to keep working in the kingdom of God relentlessly in Jesus name.

DON’T DEFILE YOURSELF

TEXT: DANIEL 1:8-20
Jerusalem was besieged; people and articles were taken to Babylon. Among those that were taken were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, there names were changed to Belteshazzer, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These boys were to be fed well so that they can be useful and fit for the king’s service. The king ordered that they must be fed with royal food and wine for them to look good as “royal servants.”
Daniel and his friends refused to defile themselves with the royal food, so they told  the guards to be giving them vegetables and water (Daniel 1:8-14). They were tested for ten days eating only vegetables and water. After ten day they came out more nourished and healthier than those that ate the royal food and wine.
These boys deprived themselves because of the love and respect they have for God. They did not stop loving God because of the situation they were in. some people would have given up on God saying “why should God allow me to be taken into captivity in a strange land?” their faithfulness earned them what nobody in the nation had. “To these four men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning.” (V: 17) these boys were not the only people taken to Babylon, but because they stood their ground in the lord and refused to defile themselves, God endowed them with an exceptional knowledge and understanding that singled them out for promotion. “At the end of the time set by the king to bring them in, the chief official presented them to Nebuchadnezzar. The king talked with them and he found none equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, so they entered the king’s service.” (V: 18-19)
The price they paid made them to become household name in the bible, the rest of the people that ate the royal food have long been forgotten, and their names were not even known. If you pay any price because of God; He will reward you bountifully.

Nobody will walk with God and have nothing to show for it, if you deprive yourself from any “unhealthy enjoyment” because you don’t want to sin against God, He will reward you in return. People may think you are not being sensible by refusing that “royal offer” Don’t worry stand your ground and see God blessing you. Daniel and his friends did it and till today we are still talking about them. The heaven will celebrate you as you refuse to defile yourself in Jesus name. Amen.

HE HAS LOADED EACH DAY WITH BENEFITS

Do not be anxious for nothing,
For He knows your thoughts and
All your needs,
He is able to do exceedingly abundantly,
Above all that you can ever think or imagine,
He will supply all your needs according to His
Riches in glory in Christ Jesus,
Worry not for each day is loaded with benefits,
All you need  to do is to ask Him for your daily supply.

Do not be distressed, the heaven is the
Lord’s and the fullness there of,
Silver and gold belongs to Him,
He owns cattle upon thousand hills,
His supply is inexhaustible, so do not worry
Saying “What shall we eat? Or what shall we drink?
Or what shall we wear? He knows that you need them,
Fear not for each day is loaded with benefits,
All you need to do is seek His kingdom and
His righteousness, all these things will be added.

Do not be troubled, never worry about tomorrow,
For He knows your tomorrow and He had already
Taken care of it, the lord that fed
Five thousand men with five loaves of bread
And two fish. He is unchanged, the same yesterday,
Today and forevermore.
Trouble not for each day is loaded with benefits,
All you need to do is have faith and
Worship Him in spirit and in truth.
