YOU NEED TO START A JOURNEY (1)

TEXT: GENESIS 12: 1-2, 4a
“The lord has said to Abram, leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you, I will make your name great and you will be a blessing. So Abram left as the lord has told him.”
This life is a journey that you started from the first day you were born, and the journey continues until death comes. Our stay on earth is temporary, no matter how long you stay on earth, you will go back home to meet your maker one day, because death is inevitable. (I pray that the lord will satisfy us with long life in Jesus name).
This journey of life is an automatic journey because we don’t have control over it; each day spent on earth draws us closer to the end of the journey. The clock started ticking from the day you were born, you cannot pause it, and neither can you rewind it. That is why we cannot afford to waste a minute of our time, because we have no control over the journey of life.

Besides the journey of life that is mandatory and automatic, there is another journey that you need to start at a certain stage of your life. This is what I called the JOURNEY OF PURPOSE; this is what this message is based on. Many people are in this world living without purpose, they don’t know what they want in life, and if you don’t know what you want in life, whatever life throws at you, you will accept because you don’t really know the exact thing that you want in life. Unlike the journey of life that you have no control over, to some extent you have control over the journey of your purpose. God created you for a purpose, while you are going through the journey of life, He wants you to fulfil a purpose also, and He does not want you to go through the journey of life aimlessly. The journey of life and the journey of purpose are to be embark on concurrently, God is your creator; He is the only one that can tell you the purpose He wants you to fulfil on earth. Therefore you need to go to Him in prayer and ask Him to show you your purpose in life. Your parents are human beings therefore they are limited in wisdom and understanding, they cannot be the one to tell you what your purpose in life is, you need to consult your maker, seek His face so that He will reveal your purpose to you.

YOU NEED TO WAIT FOR GOD (11)

TEXT: PSALM 37:7-9
“Be still in the presence of the lord and wait patiently for him to act, don’t worry about evil who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes. Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper, it only leads to harm. For the wicked will destroyed, but those who trust in the lord will possess the land.”
The blessing of the Lord makes riches and adds no sorrow to it
(Proverbs 10:22).  The text says “BE STILL IN THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD” this means when waiting, you need to calm your body, soul, and Spirit during your waiting period. There should not be any negative attitude, like anger, grumbling and negative confession. You need to wait expectantly knowing fully that God will not forsake you. Some people wait on the lord, but they wait passively, they have accepted their fate. They don’t believe that the situation can change, but because they cannot do anything to change it, they decided to let it go the way it wants to go. These types of waiters have no faith in God anymore, they don’t believe in the power of God. God did not delight in passive waiters; He wants His children to have trust in Him even in the midst of affliction. The expectant waiters are those that praise God during problem, they are those that are on the highest height of faith that their focus is not on what is going on around them but on God.
Examples of people that waited on God are Daniel, in Daniel 2: 46-49. he refused to defile himself, he waited on God to vindicate him, and at the end his waiting made God to promote him as one of the king’s ministers. David also waited 15 years from the time he was first anointed by Samuel to the time he became king over Judah, then another seven years before he became king over the whole Israel. Job also waited on God when Satan attacked him; he did not turn against God, and the lord bless his later part more than his beginning. Abraham waited patiently and expectantly for God to give him Isaac.
Refusing to wait for God may cause destruction and failure, it is compulsory for you to wait for God to act. Don’t act with your human understanding. There are some examples of some people who could not wait for God in the bible and they were rejected and destroyed. Samson was suppose to be a child of destiny, but because of his impatience and his inability to wait for God when it was time to choose a wife, he ended up in the hand of a wrong woman and that led to his destruction and his death( Judges 16). Saul also was unable to wait for Samuel the anointed servant of God to perform the sacrifice, rather he (Saul) went ahead to perform the sacrifice on behalf of Samuel. This made the lord to replace him with David and that act of impatience cost him his Throne! While you are waiting, God is working behind the scene on your behalf. Give Him time to arrange every detail so that you can receive the best. Wait patiently and expectantly for God to act!

YOU NEED TO WAIT FOR GOD (1)

TEXT: PSALM 37:7-9
“Be still in the presence of the lord and wait patiently for him to act, don't worry about evil who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes. Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper, it only leads to harm. For the wicked will be destroyed, but those who trust in the lord will possess the land.”
As human beings we all have one need or the other that we want God to meet in our lives. The Economists says “Human wants are unlimited but the resources are limited.” Once a need is met or fulfilled, it opens door for another need. For example if you are praying to God to give you a husband or a wife, once that prayer is being answered, there will be need for children in the matrimony, then the need for God’s provision to take care of the children. It continues like that, therefore there will always be a need for God to meet to make us happy.
Because of the limited resources, unlike the people of the world that would embark on unholy or shady means of meeting their needs, as believers we need to wait on God to meet all our needs (Philippians 4:19). In the quest for us to meet our needs, or due to urgency of the need, we tend to forget God and want to get things done with our human wisdom. The bible says you should commit your ways to the lord and He will direct your path. Many times you feel you have committed your ways to God, but of a truth you have not done so.
Some people would map out what they want, they will set time limit, decide how to get it done or how to achieve their purpose, and they will then take it to God for “endorsement.” This is not what God meant when He said we should commit our ways to Him. When committing your ways to God; He must do the planning with you, He must be the one that will give you the time limit, how and when to get things done must be from Him.
The period of waiting could be a very painful and challenging period, nobody likes waiting, we want to desire a thing and get it instantly. As painful as waiting is, as frustrating as we think waiting could be, you need to wait for God to bring out the best in you! This is where many believers have failed God, they believe God’s time is slow and seems not forth coming, therefore they give up on waiting on God and they go ahead to try something that is against the will of God for them. if you wait for God to act like our text said; you will experience bountiful blessing that nobody else can give you. Therefore if you have a need and you want to experience divine breakthrough and everlasting joy, you need to wait for God. If you run ahead of God to get things done on your own, instead of success; failure and frustration will set in. if you eventually get it done your own way, it may not last.  That time that you think God is not acting, or God is delaying, He is behind the scene working on your behalf to bring out the best for you. The period of your waiting determines what your success will be. For example the period of pregnancy of an Elephant is longer than that of a Dog, and when they both give birth to their babies, the reason why the duration of the Elephants’ pregnancy takes longer than that of a dog is seen on their babies. If you want to enjoy lasting blessing that will surpass your counterparts, you need to wait because nothing good comes cheap, and whatever the devil gives you will never last and it will end in sorrow. Therefore wait for your divine turn around.
