DISCOVER YOUR PURPOSE IN LIFE ( A TRUE LIFE SCENARIO)

 TEXT: MATHEW 25:14-18
The environment was serene and quiet; everybody was busy working on the assignment given to us by the teacher. Grace (not real name) broke the silence by asking a funny but a serious question, that we all need to ask ourselves; and make sure we find an answer to. She asked “Please class what is my talent?” she asked this question with all seriousness.
In the assignment; we were told to write a personal profile to include our hobby, talents, and so on.
When she got to that part of the question; she was unsure of what her talent was, that made her to ask the question aloud. We were trying to explain to her what the question meant, she said she understood the question, but her problem is that she does not have a talent! After a long laugh, we told her to look into herself deeply, because there is nobody without a talent. She waited a while (trying to think) then she said “I can’t think of any, I am telling you I don’t have. Or maybe I have not discovered it.”
When I got home I started thinking of her word, “I don’t have or maybe…” I now understand how important it is to discover who we are. Many of us are like my classmate; we do not know the seed that God has planted into our lives. If you don’t know the gift or talent that the lord has endow you with, then how can you be fulfilled? The gift or talent that God has given to you is your purpose in life that is what will make you to fulfil destiny. God said “before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nation. (Jeremiah 1:5)
This tells us that God has already mapped out what He wanted us to do on earth before we came to the world. Nobody is without a gift or a talent; at least you will have one talent. The word of God says the gift of a man will make a way for him. (Proverbs 18:16) it is your gift that will make you to stand before kings and not mere men. Your gift can take you to where education cannot take you to, it your talent that will make you stand out and be relevant among multitude.
Joseph’s gift launched him out in a strange land, and he became the prime minister.
You should not joke with your gift or talents. Make every effort to discover your talent; some people are looking out for big and obvious things like singing, dancing, etc, so if they can’t do any of these “obvious” things, they assume they don’t have any talent. The smallest thing that you did not see as a talent could make a lot of difference in your life if you pay attention to it. Go to God in prayer to show you your gift and reveal your purpose in life for you. If the gifts are to be unused, or if they are not important, God would not have given them to you. You are not living only to grow, go to school, get a job, and have money, build houses, marry and have children. There is more to your existence than that. Find the purpose for your living, know why you are existing.
A job is not your purpose for living; it is just a means to get provision that will sustain you to fulfil God’s purpose for your life.
Don’t underestimate your talents; don’t put your talents aside thinking it is immaterial, most of the time we fail to recognise our talents because we don’t see anything extraordinary about them.

HOW DO I RECOGNISE MY TALENTS?
·        Your talent is your passion; it is what you are passionate about.
·        Your talent is what you are happy to do; it is what you do without being forced.
·        Your talent is what you enjoy doing at your own time, that gives you inner joy.
·        Your talent is what flows naturally without struggling with it.
·        Your talents are things that you were not taught, that came naturally.

Do a “talent search” today, prayerfully ask God to make you see yourself through His eyes. A day is coming when we will stand before the lord and give account of how we served Him with the talents entrusted to us. Do not allow your talents to become dormant, use it to the glory of God. For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God which is in you… (11 Timothy 1:6)
