TEXT:
PSALM 37:7-9
“Be still in the presence of the lord and wait
patiently for him to act, don’t worry about evil who prosper or fret about
their wicked schemes. Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your
temper, it only leads to harm. For the wicked will destroyed, but those who
trust in the lord will possess the land.”
The blessing of the Lord makes riches and adds
no sorrow to it
(Proverbs 10:22). The text says “BE STILL IN THE PRESENCE OF
THE LORD” this means when waiting, you need to calm your body, soul, and Spirit
during your waiting period. There should not be any negative attitude, like
anger, grumbling and negative confession. You need to wait expectantly knowing
fully that God will not forsake you. Some people wait on the lord, but they
wait passively, they have accepted their fate. They don’t believe that the
situation can change, but because they cannot do anything to change it, they
decided to let it go the way it wants to go. These types of waiters have no
faith in God anymore, they don’t believe in the power of God. God did not
delight in passive waiters; He wants His children to have trust in Him even in
the midst of affliction. The expectant waiters are those that praise God during
problem, they are those that are on the highest height of faith that their
focus is not on what is going on around them but on God.
Examples of people that waited on God are
Daniel, in Daniel 2: 46-49. he refused to defile himself, he waited on God to
vindicate him, and at the end his waiting made God to promote him as one of the
king’s ministers. David also waited 15 years from the time he was first
anointed by Samuel to the time he became king over Judah, then another seven
years before he became king over the whole Israel. Job also waited on God when
Satan attacked him; he did not turn against God, and the lord bless his later
part more than his beginning. Abraham waited patiently and expectantly for God
to give him Isaac.
Refusing to wait for God may cause destruction
and failure, it is compulsory for you to wait for God to act. Don’t act with
your human understanding. There are some examples of some people who could not
wait for God in the bible and they were rejected and destroyed. Samson was
suppose to be a child of destiny, but because of his impatience and his inability
to wait for God when it was time to choose a wife, he ended up in the hand of a
wrong woman and that led to his destruction and his death( Judges 16). Saul
also was unable to wait for Samuel the anointed servant of God to perform the
sacrifice, rather he (Saul) went ahead to perform the sacrifice on behalf of
Samuel. This made the lord to replace him with David and that act of impatience
cost him his Throne! While you are waiting, God is working behind the scene on
your behalf. Give Him time to arrange every detail so that you can receive the
best. Wait patiently and expectantly for God to act!
